Summer is Here

Finally the sun has been out, but with a vengeance! This heat is hard to get used to for me at least but the garden is loving it. With the sun comes LOTS of weeding and like every year for every farmer, it is always a challenge to keep on top of it.

After our second market we are still doing well and were able to sell some beautiful mixed greens and radishes as our first fresh produce items of the summer. It is such a relief to finally be eating fresh vegetables and I can't wait for more to be ready.

The garden expansion is finally finished and we have lots of space! Somehow it seems like we will still need more but that will have to wait until next year.

First Market Success!

Well we didn't sell all of our 450 tomato plants but we did sell a bunch of them. We have a lot left though and will be selling them at Endeavor Farm and at the next market or two. Please stop by and get some or email or call us to pick up your plants! We do still have a lot of Broccoli, Eggplant and Iris plants as well.

Liz made signs to put by the road to let you know where we are!

Terry built shelves in the van so that we can take twice as much to the market. He is always figuring out strategic ways to make our work more efficient.

Terry waiting for the customers to arrive!

Terry and Liz helping some customers decide on which kind of tomatoes they want. We have over 15 different varieties to choose from.

Geauga Fresh Farmers Market

Someone still has to work on the farm even when we have market, especially when we have a rare sunny day. Anne and Bev helped us set up but then went back to the farm to start planting the flower plugs. You can tell the soil started to dry out just a little bit and they got a lot done while Terry and Liz were at the market. You can look forward to fresh cut Zinnias, Lysianthus, Yarrow, Mexican Sunflowers, Statice, Blue Victoria Salvia, Globe Amaranth, and Blue Ageratum. I can't wait to start seeing some color in the garden!

Grey & Green

It is still raining but at least things are greening up. It has actually been quite beautiful at Endeavor Farm with the bright green leaves against all of the grey skies.

Our parsnips lasted through the winter and we had them with our potroast on Sunday.

Irises against the foundation of the house.

If you haven't cut the flowering stalks off of your rhubarb yet, now is the time to do it!

Just a reminder, Endeavor Farm will be at the Geauga Fresh Farmers Market for the first market of the season next Saturday, May 21st from 9am-1pm at the corner of 306 and Bell St. See you there!

Happy Mother's Day

Happy belated Mother's Day to all of the wonderful mothers and mothers-to-be! We were lucky to have 4 generations of our family at Endeavor Farm yesterday...well...the last generation will be arriving officially in July!

We enjoyed a sunny weekend at the farm and it is so refreshing to see color popping up everywhere in the garden. Anne has always had a knack for flower arranging and you can look forward to our cut flowers at the market too! We should be getting our plugs for the flowers and herbs any day now and will plant those soon.

Despite having a few dry days, there is still a lot of standing water in the garden. Terry is trying to compensate by digging a ditch in some areas to avoid flooding in the beds.

The garlic is continuing to grow and coming in great!

The lettuce blend we planted a few weeks ago is also starting to pop up and there is fresh produce in sight!

We are now official with this brand new vinyl sign for the market! You will easily be able to spot us at the market and should be in the same spot as last year. Just a reminder, the first market Saturday is in just 2 weeks on May 21st!

Slow Spring

Despite all the rain, we have been taking advantage of the sunny days to get ready for the market and to keep making progress in the garden. This past week we did more planting and enjoyed the flowering trees.

Lots of cabbage!

Sour cherry tree beginning to bloom...Bev's sour cherry pies are to die for!

Radish seeds

Tomatoes ready to be sold at the market!

If you have never had Jeni's ice cream then you are definitely missing out. Jeni's ice cream was started in Columbus by...Jeni...and she focuses using fresh and local ingredients. She gets her cream solely from Snowville Creamery in Ohio. (We buy only Snowville milk and it is delicious and not homogenized and it is pasteurized at a very low temperature. The cows are also pasture raised which we really support!) The flavors of the ice cream are unique and above, Anne enjoyed a cone of Wildberry Lavender and Savannah Buttermint. I can't say enough wonderful things about Jeni's and so when you come by our farm stand or go to the market, swing into Chagrin Falls to go to their brand new location by the falls!

Speaking of eating local ice cream, we wanted to share with you another way we support local food. Every week we get eggs from a small farm on Music Street and they are amazing. Their shells are beautiful shades of greens, blues and browns, and the yolks are a bright yellow that you can't match in an egg from the store. These eggs are organic and free range, and most importantly the chickens are raised humanely and right down the street from us!
